Before your phone goes in for repair.

The small preparation steps that make handing over a device easier.

Back up your device and follow the service provider’s preparation instructions before handing it over.

Prepare your data first

Apple’s service-appointment guidance starts with backing up your iPhone or iPad and checking that iCloud syncing has finished. A serviced device may be erased, so check your backup before the appointment.

Its instructions also cover Wallet cards and passes, Apple Cash, unfinished repairs, and turning off Find My. Read the current checklist linked below for your device rather than relying on a remembered sequence.

Keep access details private

Apple says not to give anyone your Apple Account password, device passcode, or account security details. If software support requires you to enter credentials, stay present while the technician has access.

For an Apple service appointment, bring the affected device and relevant accessories, identification, and your receipt if possible. Some repairs require proof of purchase.

Make a handover note

Our practical suggestion: save a photo of the device’s condition, the case number, and a list of accessories you handed over. Ask for written confirmation of any quoted charge and the expected next step.

These Apple instructions concern an in-person appointment. Mail-in service and other brands can have different preparation steps; follow the instructions for the service you actually booked.
